- Chefuwang's Pingxiang warehouse has grown 17 times its 2021 size, shipping Foxconn, Nokia, Apple suppliers, and BYD-bound aluminium across the Friendship Pass, with logistics chief Li Anzhang calling it a "big gap to fill in Vietnam."
- Friendship Pass checkpoint recorded 305.6 billion yuan (S$58 billion) in two-way China-Vietnam trade in H1 2026, up 28.3% year-on-year, as truckers like Su Wenpeng make three daily round trips between Pingxiang and Vietnam's Dong Dang depot.
- Apple is pushing its Tier 2, 3 and 4 Chinese suppliers — and suppliers of suppliers — to open Vietnam factories, but Hanoi-based consultant Marco Foerster said those sub-suppliers still need to import raw materials from China, leaving the relocations partly cosmetic.
- Vietnam received 46% "Liberation Day" US tariffs in 2025 and now runs the largest US trade surplus of any American trading partner in H1 2026, exceeding China's, with Bloomberg reporting US officials have inspected China-linked factories inside Vietnam.
- G.Tech Technology Vietnam, a subsidiary of Zhuhai-based G.Tech that makes Logitech and Asus peripherals, plans to shift to 60% Vietnam, 40% China production, with deputy general manager Zhu Qingde citing client approval of the move.
- Steve Bui, chairman of the Vietnam-China Business Council, called the influx "no longer a temporary 'wave,' but has become a 'tide,'" while warning that Chinese technology accounts for 70–80% of the South-east Asian market's component supply and full decoupling is unrealistic within 5–10 years.
Why it matters: Vietnam now runs the largest US trade surplus of any American trading partner — exceeding China's — and US officials have already inspected China-linked factories there, yet Tier 2-4 Chinese component makers still depend on Chinese raw materials. The tariff-busting relocations are partly cosmetic, and the US-China-Vietnam triangle is tightening rather than decoupling, with both Friendship Pass trade and Chinese investment in Vietnam climbing sharply in H1 2026.
