- Miami Heat acquired two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks in a multi-player trade.
- The deal sends Bobby Portis to Miami, while Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and Kasparas Jakucionis head to Milwaukee.
- Antetokounmpo, 31, was drafted by the Bucks in 2013 and won the NBA championship with Milwaukee in 2021.
- Antetokounmpo publicly criticized Bucks management last season for not clearing him to play after suffering a left knee hyperextension.
- Pat Riley called the trade "one of the great trades" in Heat franchise history; the Heat have won three NBA titles (2006, 2012, 2013).
- After Milwaukee missed the playoffs, Antetokounmpo said: "I feel like sometimes people just don't listen. They listen to the sources. The main source is me."
- The Boston Celtics had also been linked to the Greek star before Miami closed the deal.
Why it matters: Antetokounmpo — a two-time MVP and 2021 NBA champion — leaves Milwaukee after 12 seasons, a franchise-defining departure that Pat Riley immediately dubbed "one of the great trades" in Heat history. Miami beat out Boston, which had also been linked to the 31-year-old Greek star, and gave up four rotation players to get him.
