Ukraine Drones Cripple Russian Frigates at Novorossiysk

- Ukrainian drones struck the Black Sea Fleet's port at Novorossiysk on August 12th, damaging at least four surface combatants and on-shore facilities including a grain terminal, an S-300 30N6E radar component, and a tanker near the oil terminal.
- Satellite imagery confirmed moderate damage to the Admiral Essen and Admiral Makarov — two of the fleet's three Project 11356R Admiral Grigorovich-class frigates — concentrated on forward VLS cells, likely disabling their surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missile launches.
- A Buyan-M corvette, capable of launching up to 8 Kalibr and Oniks cruise missiles, and a Project 22160 patrol ship were also hit in the coordinated strike using jet-powered drones, Neptune cruise missiles, and sea-based suicide drones.
- The strike follows a weeks-long Ukrainian campaign that sank over 100 Russian cargo and fuel vessels, degrading resupply to Crimea and disrupting Black Sea shipping — described as "one of the final nails in the BSF's coffin."
- Despite the fleet's collapse, Russian strikes on shipping to and from Ukrainian ports continue, leaving the Black Sea in a state where neither side can fully project force.
