- Kanye West posted on X that he is postponing his Marseille show until further notice, citing desire not to put fans in the middle of ongoing controversy.
- Mayor Benoit Payan of Marseille wrote on X that he refuses to let the city showcase "hatred and unapologetic Nazism," declaring West not welcome at the Vélodrome.
- Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez confirmed his office is exploring ways to ban West from performing in Marseille, and met with Payan and prefect Jacques Witkowski to discuss barring the concert.
- Le Monde reported, citing France’s highest administrative court, that local authorities can only ban a concert under strict conditions if statements risk constituting a criminal offense and public order is threatened.
- Keir Starmer as UK Prime Minister denied West entry to the United Kingdom for the Wireless Festival, stating West should never have been invited because of his antisemitic past, leading to sponsor withdrawals and eventual cancellation.
- West later said he is willing to meet with local Jewish community leaders, but the London festival was cancelled.
Why it matters: Fans in Marseille lose a chance to see Ye, while French officials demonstrate the limits of banning performers under law; the UK’s refusal to admit him forces the Wireless Festival’s cancellation, costing sponsors and the festival organizer, and depriving local economies of expected tourism revenue.
