- Brice Turang was the biggest NL snub, posting a 3.2 combo WAR that beat both voted-in second baseman Ozzie Albies (2.0) and backup Luis Arraez (3.1), with a higher OPS and better defense.
- Willson Contreras topped all snubbed AL position players with a 2.8 fWAR, ranking ninth overall, while starter Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ranks 28th in OPS and is hitting .265 with four home runs.
- Justin Wrobleski (10-2, 2.80 ERA) was the top first-half pitching snub in the NL, outperforming selected starter Paul Skenes, who hasn't won in nine starts with a 3.62 ERA.
- Davis Martin (9-3, 3.08 ERA, 2.9 combo WAR) was left off the AL roster in favor of Michael Wacha (5-5, 3.31 ERA, 2.4 combo WAR) despite the Royals already having Bobby Witt Jr. on the team.
- Bryce Harper was added as a NL 'legend' pick for the Philadelphia-hosted game, joined in the infield by Freddie Freeman (fan vote) and Matt Olson (players' vote).
- Aaron Judge and Mike Trout were both voted in as starters but will miss the game due to rib and hamstring injuries respectively, with Trout hoping to play in his first All-Star Game since 2019.
- Junior Caminero seized the AL starting third base spot from injured Jose Ramirez, climbing into the AL MVP conversation with 25 home runs at age 22.
Why it matters: The roster choices reflect how badly injuries and slumps have thinned this year's star power: Judge, Trout, Ramirez, Lindor, Raleigh, and Machado are either hurt or hitting below .200, leaving WAR leaders like Turang and Contreras on the outside while players like Paul Skenes and Michael Wacha keep their spots on track record alone. For the game itself, the league added extra starters rather than relievers and tapped Phillies favorite Cristopher Sanchez to start in Philadelphia.
