- BBC has acquired eight-part sitcom Ghosts Australia to sit alongside the British and American versions of the format in its UK lineup.
- Tamala and Rowan Witt lead the cast as a couple who inherit a dilapidated country manor home inhabited by an eccentric group of ghosts.
- The ghost ensemble includes Mandy McElhinney, Brent Hill, Ines English, Michelle Brasier, George Zhao, and Jackson Tozer, with Christiaan Van Vuuren and Madeleine Dyer directing.
- BBC Studios Australia Productions produced the series with investment from Screenwest and the Western Australian Production Attraction Incentive; BBC Studios retains distribution rights.
- The show originally aired on Paramount+ in Australia; writers include Josh Mapleston, with Libby Butler as script editor and Bree-Anne Sykes producing.
- Nick Lee, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, called the acquisition "a fresh and very fun spin of the wheel for this beloved BBC format."
Why it matters: Ghosts Australia becomes the third English-language iteration of the BBC's hit format to reach UK screens, giving BBC Studios another international remake to distribute globally. The acquisition also brings a show backed by Western Australian public funding (Screenwest and the WA Production Attraction Incentive) onto the BBC's free streaming and BBC Three platforms, broadening its audience well beyond its original Paramount+ Australia run.
