VW Reveals ID. ERA 5X EV on XPeng Co-Developed Platform

- Volkswagen revealed the ID. ERA 5X electric SUV late Friday night via a Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing, making it the first pure BEV built on its new Compact Main Platform (CMP) with SAIC VW.
- The CMP platform was co-developed with Chinese automaker XPeng and incorporates technology from the China Electronic Architecture (CEA).
- The ID. ERA 5X is powered by a 155 kW (~205 hp) electric motor from United Automotive Electronic Systems, paired with an LFP battery from CATL, though battery capacity and range were not disclosed.
- The SUV measures 4,560 mm long, 1,896 mm wide, and 1,630 mm tall on a 2,815 mm wheelbase — sizing comparable to a Jeep Compass or Mazda CX-5.
- Buyers can choose 17, 18, or 19-inch wheels with optional lighting elements, bumper and trim packages, black painted roofs (with panoramic sunroof), and roof racks.
- The interior will feature a new LiDAR system and "Xingyun" intelligent assisted driving tech enabling L2++ Urban NOA capabilities, plus the "Yunqi" smart cockpit first seen in other ID. ERA concepts.
