Maize mysteries: Scientists uncover new information on how DNA works in maize

A joint Florida State and North Carolina State team has identified two distinct euchromatin subcompartments in the maize nucleus, each with its own replication timing and spatial organization. Using high‑throughput sequencing and 3‑D microscopy, they proved that maize chromatin isn’t uniform, a finding that could reshape our grasp of gene regulation and accelerate crop‑breeding strategies.
