- Trek launched the Borrego+ Class 2 fat tire e-bike featuring a 750W rear hub motor producing 90 Nm of torque and a 720 Wh removable battery rated for up to 60 miles of range.
- The Borrego+ is priced at $2,499, positioning it at the more affordable end of Trek's lineup and targeting budget shoppers who want a name brand with a nationwide dealer and service network.
- Trek will also sell a Borrego+ S Class 3 variant with a 28 mph assisted top speed, but the model will not be available in California due to state regulations on Class 3 e-bikes.
- The Borrego+ comes equipped with 4-inch-wide puncture-protected tires, an 80 mm suspension fork, a 440 lb carrying capacity, MIK-compatible rear rack, fenders, skid plate, integrated brake light, and daytime-visible turn signals.
- The e-bike integrates with Trek's Central app, adding a digital bike lock, battery alerts, custom ride modes, and range estimates, with a lockable top-eject battery designed for on- or off-bike charging.
- This launch marks Trek's push into the throttle-equipped fat tire category that has largely been dominated by direct-to-consumer brands like Rad Power Bikes and Aventon.
Why it matters: Trek's $2,499 Borrego+ is a notable shift for a brand long defined by premium analog bikes and mid-drive e-bikes, now competing head-on with direct-to-consumer fat tire brands on price while leveraging its nationwide dealer network as a differentiator. The Class 3 Borrego+ S being barred from California excludes the country's largest e-bike market from Trek's top-speed variant, limiting upside on the higher-margin SKU.
