Geely launches longer-range Xingyuan EV under $10K

SkimNews Take
Sustained market leadership at a low price point suggests Chinese automakers are prioritizing volume and accessibility to rapidly expand EV adoption rather than focusing on premium features or profit margins per unit.

- Geely launched the upgraded Xingyuan (sold overseas as the EX2) on Thursday in six variants priced from 64,800 yuan ($9,500) to 94,800 yuan ($14,000), with a limited-time promo dropping the entry price to 61,800 yuan ($9,100).
- The Xingyuan was China's best-selling new energy vehicle in 2025 with over 465,000 units sold and again topped April sales, beating the Xiaomi SU7 and Tesla Model Y according to CPCA data.
- CATL-supplied LFP battery packs were upgraded—the entry pack grew from 30.12 kWh to 35 kWh for 410 km of CLTC range, and the larger pack from 40.16 kWh to 45 kWh for up to 480 km, with 30%–80% fast charging in under 20 minutes at a 1.66C peak rate.
- The new Xingyuan adds fender-mounted cameras to support remote parking and a Sentry Mode–style feature, along with an 8.8-inch driver cluster and a 14.6-inch central screen running Geely's Galaxy Flyme 2.0 cockpit.
- Geely announced plans to sell the EX2 across five continents in 2026, including Europe, the UK, and Southeast Asia, going head-to-head with the slightly smaller BYD Seagull, which received its own upgrade earlier this month.
Why it matters: Geely is keeping the Xingyuan's sub-$10,000 entry price while meaningfully stretching range from 410 km to as much as 480 km—a 17% bump on the top pack—making China's best-selling EV harder for rivals like the BYD Seagull, Xiaomi SU7, and Tesla Model Y to undercut on value as Geely also eyes European and Southeast Asian export markets in 2026.
