- Briarcliff Entertainment set a Jan. 29, 2027 wide theatrical release for Drag, the SXSW-premiering thriller comedy starring Lizzy Caplan, John Stamos, Lucy DeVito, and Christine Ko.
- Drag marks the feature directorial debut of writers-directors Greg Yagolnitzer and Raviv Ullman and earned a 93% Rotten Tomatoes critical score at its SXSW world premiere earlier this year.
- The film follows two estranged sisters attempting a rural upstate New York home burglary that spirals into a nightmarish ordeal when one sister throws out her back and becomes immobilized on the second floor.
- Jersey Films 2nd Avenue, founded by Danny DeVito, Lucy DeVito, and Jake DeVito, produces Drag as its first independent feature film, following the animated FXX series Little Demon and the Amazon sports docuseries Game 7.
- Lionsgate's Takashi Doscher-directed action pic Karoshi and an untitled A24 movie are also opening on Jan. 29, 2027, creating a competitive winter release window.
Why it matters: Drag gives Briarcliff a SXSW-validated indie with a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score and recognizable names (Caplan, Stamos, the DeVitos) for a wide January 2027 theatrical push, while marking the first independent feature from the DeVito family's Jersey Films 2nd Avenue — a company now extending from TV work into theatrical genre storytelling. The Jan. 29 date puts Drag in direct competition with Lionsgate's Karoshi and an untitled A24 film on the same opening weekend.
