Korea Box Office: Na Hong-Jin’s ‘Hope’ Holds Firm at No. 1 as Market Slows

- Hope, directed by Na Hong-Jin, topped the Korean box office Jul. 24–26 with $5.5 million from 767,366 admissions and a 66.8% market share, lifting its cumulative gross to $25.3 million from 3,415,707 viewers
- The overall Korean weekend market gross fell to $8.2 million, plummeting from $17.1 million the prior week
- Minions & Monsters placed second with $793,103 from 117,916 admissions, bringing its cumulative since Jul. 15 to $3.9 million from 562,965 ticket buyers
- Disney's Moana took third in its third weekend with $593,187 from 87,033 admissions, pushing its South Korean cume to $6.6 million from 909,270 viewers
- Toy Story 5 landed fourth with $376,522, nearing $20 million locally with a cumulative $19.8 million from 2,837,123 viewers since mid-June
- Colony, directed by Yeon Sang-ho and starring Jun Ji-hyun, took ninth with $27,867, but boasts a lifetime haul of $42.6 million from 5,949,979 admissions since its May 21 rollout
Why it matters: "Hope" held 66.8% of a market that nearly halved from the prior weekend — the tentpole's dominance masked a $8.9 million week-over-week revenue collapse, leaving exhibitors and competing distributors facing a much weaker frame despite the chart-topper still drawing crowds.
