- Netflix greenlit a mini-series sequel titled Florida to its Norwegian disaster series La Palma, which is currently ranking in the streamer's top 10 non-English language charts.
- Florida picks up hours after the original's volcanic eruption, shifting focus to a Norwegian community in the U.S. who are still unaware that a devastating tsunami is on its way.
- La Palma starred Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Thea Sofie Loch Næss, and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, and was partly based on the 2021 Cumbre Vieja volcanic eruption in the Canary Islands.
- Lars Gudmestad writes and Cecilie Mosli directs the sequel, produced by Fantefilm — the Norwegian studio known for "Scandisaster" productions including La Palma and The Burning Sea.
Why it matters: This gives Netflix a proven non-English franchise to extend, while Fantefilm's "Scandisaster" formula — pairing intimate human stories with large-scale destruction — gets its third high-profile outing after La Palma and The Burning Sea. The U.S.-based Norwegian community setting also repositions the property for English-speaking audiences.
