- Bitcoin.com integrated USDU, a UAE-registered US dollar stablecoin, into its self-custodial web and mobile wallet, enabling users to hold, send, and receive the token.
- USDU, issued by Abu Dhabi-based Universal Digital, is the first and only Foreign Payment Token registered under the UAE central bank’s Payment Token Services Regulation.
- Universal Digital launched USDU in January and is regulated by the Abu Dhabi Global Market’s Financial Services Regulatory Authority to issue fiat-referenced tokens.
- Bitcoin.com plans to accept USDU for designated services and enable peer-to-peer and merchant payments across its ecosystem, with availability varying by jurisdiction.
- Third-party providers will later add swap and buy-and-sell functionality for USDU within the Bitcoin.com wallet, the company said in its announcement.
Why it matters: This integration brings a regulated stablecoin from the UAE into a major consumer crypto wallet, giving retail users direct access to a token previously limited to institutional use. With USDU now usable in a self-custodial environment, it gains broader utility in global crypto transactions where compliant dollar-pegged assets are in demand.
