- Aung Phyoe's "Fruit Gathering" (Thit-thee Khu), a Myanmar-set drama produced with the Czech Republic and France, won the Crystal Globe top prize at the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
- The jury described the film as "a lush and meditative portrait of work and friendship before morphing, unexpectedly and organically, into a harrowing drama of obsession and queer desire."
- Mads Mengel won both the Special Jury Prize and Best Director award for the Danish film "The Guest" (Gæsten), one of the rare double wins of the night.
- Crystal Globe awards for Outstanding Artistic Contribution went to Dustin Hoffman, Juliette Binoche, and cinematographer Robert Richardson.
- Festival President's Awards went to Jesse Eisenberg, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Magda Vášáryová, and Jeffrey Wright, while Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick and son Travis visited with their horror-comedy "Family Movie" — though the article dryly notes "it remains unclear whether...got anything for the mantelpiece."
- Anna Schinz won Best Actress for the Swiss film "A Happy Family," while Ghassan Saad took Best Actor for Lebanon-set "Pipes."
- In the Proxima sidebar competition, Martina Buchelová's "Lover, Not a Fighter" (Slovak Republic/Czech Republic) won the Grand Prix.
Why it matters: "Fruit Gathering" takes home a $25,000 Grand Prize (split between director and producers) and a jury citation that is unusually specific in naming queer desire — a strong launch signal for a debut Myanmar co-production. The fact that Variety is already running a full review attests the film has caught distributor attention beyond the festival itself.
