- Noah Cameron threw a one-hit, complete-game shutout with eight strikeouts on 115 pitches (73 for strikes), leading the Kansas City Royals to a 3-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.
- Cameron retired his first 15 batters before issuing a leadoff walk to Oswald Peraza in the sixth; the Angels' lone hit came in the seventh on Vaughn Grissom's bloop single, one batter after Cameron struck out Mike Trout to start the inning.
- Cameron became the first Royals pitcher to throw a one-hit shutout since Zack Greinke did it on August 30, 2009, against the Seattle Mariners, according to ESPN Research.
- Cameron also lost a no-hit bid July 30 at Minnesota when Ryan Jeffers broke it up with a leadoff single in the seventh; he departed after eight innings of one-hit ball and the Twins scored four in the ninth for a 4-3 loss.
- In his second big league season, Cameron is 7-8 with a 4.16 ERA across 23 starts and one relief appearance, and he owns a 1.19 ERA over his past 37⅔ innings spanning five outings.
- Cameron was a seventh-round pick by Kansas City in the 2021 amateur draft out of the University of Central Arkansas; last year he went 9-7 with a 2.99 ERA and finished fourth in AL Rookie of the Year balloting.
Why it matters: Cameron joins Zack Greinke in the Royals record book as the first Kansas City pitcher to toss a one-hit shutout in nearly 17 years, and his 1.19 ERA over the past 37⅔ innings signals the left-hander has elevated his game in his second MLB season after a top-five Rookie of the Year finish.
