- Jayden Higgins tore his ACL during Tuesday's joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders while running a route in the end zone during red zone 11-on-11 drills, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
- Higgins, a 2025 second-round pick, had posted 525 receiving yards and six touchdowns during his rookie season and was off to a strong start to training camp before the injury.
- Coach DeMeco Ryans said after practice the team was still evaluating the severity of the injury; Higgins initially couldn't get up but later limped off on his own.
- Xavier Hutchinson, Tank Dell, and Jaylin Noel now become the Texans' next receiving options, with Hutchinson leading the group after posting career highs of 35 receptions for 428 yards and three touchdowns last season.
- Dell is still recovering from a serious knee injury suffered in December 2024 that cost him all of 2025, while Noel has battled a broken finger and hamstring tightness throughout camp, leaving Houston's depth paper-thin.
Why it matters: The Texans just lost their most promising young receiver for the season, and the depth behind him is also banged up — Dell hasn't played since December 2024 and Noel has been limited all camp, meaning Houston may be forced to lean on a thin, unproven receiving group with the regular season approaching.
