- Despite the functionality, Siri's arrival feels anticlimactic because the AI race has surged ahead — AI tools are now coding software, completing multistep tasks, and operating computers autonomously
- Siri can be used inside the camera viewfinder to identify real-world objects and split restaurant bills with friends, and now consistently plays the requested song, podcast, or audiobook on the user's preferred app
Why it matters: Apple's dependence on Google's Gemini to train its foundation models is a significant concession — the company known for in-house silicon and software is now borrowing core AI from a primary competitor. Users gain a finally-functional assistant, but Apple entered an AI conversation that has already evolved past chatbots into agentic systems that code and operate computers, meaning Siri's delivery fulfills an outdated promise.
