Brad Pitt's 'Heart of the Beast' Lands at San Sebastián

- Brad Pitt and David Ayer will both attend San Sebastián (Sept. 18-26) to present "Heart of the Beast," the festival announced Monday — marking the first big-name talent confirmed for this year's edition.
- "Heart of the Beast" follows Pitt as a former Army Special Forces soldier who must survive the Alaskan wilderness after a plane crash, aided by a retired service dog named Odin who fends off bears and wolves.
- J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe co-star in the Paramount thriller, which was written by Cameron Alexander and marks a reunion between Pitt and Ayer more than a decade after their 2014 WWII film "Fury."
- Pitt serves as a producer alongside Olivia Hamilton, Marty Bowen and Ayer, with the film a Wild Chickens, Temple Hill and Kino World production in association with Domain Entertainment and Gulfstream Pictures.
- Penelope Cruz is also expected at the festival, with her starring vehicle "The Invite" (Olivia Wilde) and a cameo in Spanish duo Calvo and Ambrossi's "La bola negra" both selected for the Perlak best-of-fests sidebar.
- "Heart of the Beast" screens out of competition in the Official Selection, positioning what the source calls the festival's earliest big-star announcement ahead of the Sept. 18-26 run.
Why it matters: This is the first major star confirmation for San Sebastián's 2025 edition (Sept. 18-26), reuniting Pitt with his "Fury" director on a Paramount survival thriller and giving the Spanish festival an early anchor name before its full program is complete.
