- Volkswagen's ID.3 Neo GTI was photographed testing in Germany with minimal camouflage, marking the first public look at the electric hot hatch ahead of its expected official debut by the end of 2026.
- The ID.3 Neo GTI is expected to use Volkswagen's most powerful drive unit at 240 kW (322 hp) sent to the rear wheels, versus the ID. Polo GTI's 166 kW (222 hp) front-mounted motor.
- The prototype shows modified front and rear bumpers, performance brakes, and unique wheels over the standard ID.3 Neo, with GTI-specific interior touches including a sports steering wheel, premium sports seats, and added badging.
- The standard ID.3 Neo, which Volkswagen calls its first "true Volkswagen," ships in 125 kW, 140 kW, and 170 kW configurations with up to 630 km (391 miles) of WLTP range on the 79 kWh battery.
- The ID. Polo GTI, VW's first all-electric GTI, goes on sale this fall starting under €39,000 ($45,000) in Germany, with a 0-100 km/h time of 6.8 seconds.
- Volkswagen is set to launch the standard ID.3 Neo in July, with the GTI variant expected to follow before year's end.
Why it matters: Volkswagen is electrifying its GTI sub-brand from two ends simultaneously: the ID. Polo GTI at the entry level (€39,000, 222 hp, FWD) and the ID.3 Neo GTI as the more powerful, rear-driven performance option at 322 hp — giving EV buyers a clear power-and-price ladder within the iconic GTI badge for the first time.
