- Vorteks picked up worldwide rights to the post-production psychological thriller 'Rain Catcher' and will launch sales at Cannes, according to an exclusive announcement
- Dudley O'Shaughnessy stars in his first leading feature role as photographer Miles, who obsessively captures morbid portraits of strangers before noticing a mysterious woman turning the lens back on him
- The feature extends Fiascaris' Silver Méliès-winning short of the same name, which premiered at Sitges and is currently available on Disney+ in Europe after HBO Europe distribution
- During development, the project was a finalist for the Netflix + Creative UK Breakout program and won the NAFF Award at the Sitges FanPitch in 2022
- O'Shaughnessy previously broke out opposite Rihanna in the 'We Found Love' video (1.1 billion YouTube views) and appeared in Netflix's Top Boy; the cast also includes Jessie Mei Li, Iris Law, Kate Dickie, Youssef Kerkour, and Lorenzo Richelmy
- Vorteks' broader Cannes slate includes SXSW hit Grind, Taiwanese thriller The Evil Inside starring Joan Chen, and Canadian horror Ancestral Beasts, set to world premiere at Fantasia
Why it matters: This deal gives O'Shaughnessy his first leading role on a global sales platform, and positions Vorteks as an expanding genre hub—adding 'Rain Catcher' to a Cannes slate that already includes a SXSW hit and a Fantasia-bound title. The film extends an award-winning short with existing streaming traction on Disney+ Europe and HBO Europe, giving international buyers a proven audience hook to underwrite the feature.
