- Ali Hazelwood's "The Love Hypothesis" is being adapted as a Prime Video film, with casting rounds opening mid-July 2025; the novel debuted Sept. 14, 2021 via Berkley Books and originated as Rey/Kylo Ren fanfiction
- Lili Reinhart was the first to board the project, cast as PhD candidate Olive Smith while also signing on as executive producer — a Deadline exclusive
- Tom Bateman (Murder on the Orient Express) landed the male lead role of professor Dr. Adam Carlsen, reported the day after Reinhart's casting
- Additional cast including Rachel Marsh (Adults), Nicholas Duvernay (The White Lotus), Jaboukie Young-White (Companion) and Arty Froushan (Daredevil: Born Again) joined in August as Anh, Jeremy, Malcolm and Tom respectively
- Claire Scanlon (Set It Up) is directing from Sarah Rothschild's (The Sleepover) script, with Elizabeth Cantillon producing and Catherine Hagedorn executive producing for Amazon MGM Studios and MRC
- The film is described as a romantic comedy in which Olive and her professor enter a fake relationship to test their theories about love, and Prime Video released a first teaser trailer out of Obsessed Fest
- Hazelwood's "Love, Theoretically" is also being adapted for Amazon MGM Studios with Colleen Hoover producing and Sofia Alvarez directing — extending the author's relationship with the streamer
Why it matters: Prime Video locked in the screen rights to one of BookTok's defining hits and attached Lili Reinhart in a dual star/executive-producer capacity — an unusual level of creative investment for a streamer rom-com. With the director (Scanlon) and cast finalized by August 2025, the project is positioned as a flagship adaptation for the Amazon MGM pipeline alongside the already-greenlit "Love, Theoretically."
