- World Weather Attribution scientists concluded climate change made the 2026 drought conditions 80 times more likely in western Europe and 40 times more likely in the east, with fossil-fuel pollution driving soil dryness five-fold in the west and eleven-fold in the east.
- Western Europe is classified under "extreme" drought despite a wet winter — a designation the analysis says would have been merely "moderate" in a pre-climate-crisis world, covering April through June across England, France, Spain, Portugal, and Italy.
