- Sam Mendes' Beatles biopic production was filmed outside Abbey Road Studios in London, with the cast lining up and walking across the pedestrian crossing to recreate the iconic album cover.
- Harris Dickinson leads the walk as John Lennon, followed by Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, per footage posted on social media on Sunday.
- The original Abbey Road cover was shot on 8 August 1969 by freelance photographer Iain Macmillan, who took six stills from a stepladder in the middle of the road — one was chosen; the album was mostly recorded that summer under the working title "Everest," named after a cigarette brand smoked by engineer Geoff Emerick.
- Mendes announced the four-film project in February 2024 with backing from Sony Pictures and permission from McCartney and Starr, as well as from the estates of Lennon and Harrison.
- Saoirse Ronan (Linda McCartney), James Norton (Brian Epstein), and Lucy Boynton (Jane Asher) have joined the supporting cast.
- The four films — each focused on an individual Beatle — are scheduled for release in April 2028.
Why it matters: With Sony's backing and permission secured from McCartney, Starr, and the Lennon and Harrison estates, the project carries direct authorization from the band and their closest surviving circles — a rare level of access for a major music biopic. The four-film structure, each focused on an individual Beatle and all targeted for April 2028, sets an unusually large production footprint for the genre.
