- Valar Atomics raised $1 billion in equity led by Sequoia, with partner Shaun Maguire joining the board, plus a $200 million line of credit from Erebor and other banks.
- Valar was valued at $6 billion post-money, per Bloomberg, though the company did not officially disclose its valuation.
- Valar builds small modular nuclear reactors; in June it demonstrated its Ward 250 reactor powering an Nvidia Blackwell system and announced a deal with Nvidia to co-develop a waterless 30MW AI factory.
- Valar's reactor development cycle is compressing — two years to complete the NOVA core, seven months to take Ward 250 critical — and the company says it aims to eventually produce thousands of reactors per year.
- Competitor nuclear startups are also pulling in large rounds: Antares raised $470 million and X-energy raised $1 billion through its IPO in recent months.
- Other investors in the round include Apandion Capital, Atreides Management, Conviction, Dream Ventures, HOF Capital, Point72, Riot Ventures, Snowpoint Ventures, and Valor Equity Partners.
Why it matters: Valar now has both marquee capital and a marquee customer: the Nvidia deal ties SMRs directly into AI factory planning, while the shrinking build cycle (two years down to seven months per reactor) signals the company is hitting engineering milestones fast enough to make nuclear a credible near-term option for data center power — not a 2030s promise.
