- Russia and Ukraine killed at least 14 civilians in overnight cross-strikes — at least nine in multiple Russian regions and five in Ukraine — as both sides escalate attacks well beyond front-line areas.
- Ukrainian drones struck the Saratov oil refinery and Engels strategic bomber airbase (fires reported at both), hit an oil depot in Kaluga, and attacked a Wildberries warehouse in Samara roughly 800km from Ukraine's most advanced positions.
- Ukraine has hit about a dozen Wildberries sites since July 18 to disrupt what the source calls "a linchpin of the consumer economy often described as Russia's answer to Amazon."
- Russia fired a record 376 missiles at Ukraine in July — more than double June's total — with most aimed at Kyiv; UN figures show 170+ Ukrainian civilians killed between July 1 and 27.
- President Zelenskyy said air defenses intercepted 154 drones but only one ballistic missile during a single overnight barrage of 220 aerial weapons (35 missiles, 27 ballistic, 185 drones), blaming a critical shortage of US-supplied Patriot interceptors.
- Civilian tolls included three killed by a drone strike on a car in Udmurtia — 1,300km beyond the front line — and four in Belgorod including a 13-year-old girl near a playground; a Russian guided bomb hit a residential building in Zaporizhzhia.
Why it matters: Ukraine intercepted just 1 of 27 Russian ballistic missiles in a single overnight barrage, a capability gap Zelenskyy pinned on a critical shortage of US-supplied Patriot interceptors. Russia more than doubled its monthly missile launches in July versus June, and one recent barrage alone involved 220 aerial weapons — putting Ukraine's air-defense posture squarely on Western interceptor resupply.
