- Max Verstappen's Red Bull contract runs through the end of 2028 but includes performance clauses that could see him leave if the team cannot provide a winning car — a provision highlighted during the 2024 Christian Horner investigation (allegations later dismissed)
- Lewis Hamilton confirmed at the 2026 Canadian Grand Prix that he holds a Ferrari contract through at least 2027, with Sky Sports understanding he also has a unilateral option for 2028
- Charles Leclerc signed a new Ferrari deal in June 2026 keeping him at Maranello through at least the end of 2028, with possible further extensions
- Lando Norris, the reigning world champion, is tied to McLaren through at least the end of 2027 after agreeing an extension shortly before the 2024 season
- Cadillac's debut lineup pairs Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, both on multi-year deals through 2027 after spending 2025 on the sidelines
- George Russell was officially announced by Mercedes only for 2026, but is understood to be on a multi-year deal keeping him with the team through at least 2027
- Fernando Alonso will turn 45 later this year, which would make him the first driver to compete in F1 at that age since Graham Hill in 1975, with retirement questions looming as Aston Martin struggle
Why it matters: With most top drivers (Verstappen, Leclerc, Norris, Hamilton, Russell) locked in through 2027 or 2028, the 2027 driver market will largely be decided by which of the 13 drivers currently on expiring 2026 deals can secure extensions — with Cadillac's new seats adding fresh competition for incumbent drivers at Haas, Williams, and Audi.
