- Mastodon will release new album "Marrow Deep" on Aug. 28 via Loma Vista Recordings, previewed by single "Snakes For Dinner" featuring Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age.
- "Marrow Deep" is the band's first full-length with new guitarist Nick Johnston and keyboardist João Nogueira, following the death of former guitarist Brett Hinds in a motorcycle accident last year — he had been fired from the band shortly before.
- The Poisonous Weapons Tour kicks off Sept. 16 in Orlando and wraps Oct. 24 at Sick New World Dallas, with Deafheaven and Alcest as support acts.
- Josh Homme's guest vocals on "Snakes For Dinner" mark his first Mastodon appearance since 2006's "Colony of Birchmen."
- The album was inspired by the three fates of Greek mythology and co-produced by the band at their West End Sound studio in Atlanta with Patrik Berger and Kurt Ballou.
- Drummer Brann Dailor told Blabbermouth the record was "a hard record to make" and "very emotional," citing his mother's death and Hinds' passing in quick succession.
Why it matters: The Aug. 28 release gives Mastodon their first album without founding guitarist Brett Hinds — fired from the band and later killed in a motorcycle accident — and introduces replacement Nick Johnston. A nationwide Poisonous Weapons Tour launches Sept. 16 in Orlando with Deafheaven and Alcest supporting.
