The Canada-U.S. trade war is playing out amid a tight race for U.S. Senate in Maine.
The Maine Senate election will help determine which party controls Congress for the remainder of Donald Trump's term as president.

Why it matters: The Maine Senate result will decide which party holds Congress through the end of Trump's term, handing the winner direct legislative leverage over trade policy and the administration's remaining agenda — making a single state-level race a national referendum on the Canada dispute.
