- Netflix is developing a live-action PUBG series based on Krafton’s bestselling battle-royale game.
- Donald Glover will write, direct, star in and executive produce the adaptation, with his brother Stephen Glover serving as a co-writer and executive producer.
- Michael Schaefer will executive produce for Neon TV, alongside Fam Udeorji for Gilga and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for Krafton’s LV3H.
- PUBG came together as a Netflix series after lengthy negotiations, stemming from the streamer’s first-look deal with Krafton before Netflix brought Donald Glover aboard.
- PUBG has set seven Guinness World Records since its 2017 debut, and Krafton announced plans for a PUBG movie and television series in 2020.
- LV3H is involved in developing and producing original entertainment under the PUBG franchise; an animated series announced in 2021 has had no updates since.
- Netflix has a broader game-adaptation slate in development, including a live-action Assassin’s Creed series, a live-action Gears of War film and animated Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering and Clash of Clans series.
Why it matters: Krafton and Netflix are extending a seven-record, bestselling game into scripted television while building on a film/TV plan first announced in 2020. For Netflix, the project adds PUBG to an existing adaptation slate spanning Assassin’s Creed, Gears of War, Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering and Clash of Clans.
