- Apple enabled "Pace" and "Expressivity" sliders for Siri in iOS 27 beta 3, controls that had been labeled "Coming soon" in earlier developer betas.
- Siri voice customization, introduced at WWDC 26 in June, now includes accent switching alongside sliders for speech speed and emotional expressiveness.
- ChatGPT already offers more granular voice customization — warmth and enthusiasm sliders launched in December 2025, plus style presets (friendly, professional, candid, quirky) that also affect how information is presented.
- Apple preview-tests the voice settings with sample phrases like "You have one new message" so users can hear differences in real time.
- iOS 27 integrates the AI Siri across the system, accessible via speaking, swiping down from the Dynamic Island, the side button, or a new standalone Siri app.
- Beta testers on X report losing access to the new Siri after updating, or seeing their phones re-index data — typically a first step in optimizing Siri AI for search.
Why it matters: This puts Apple in catch-up mode on voice-AI personalization. ChatGPT shipped warmth, enthusiasm, and four style presets (friendly, professional, candid, quirky) back in December 2025; Apple's pace and expressivity sliders now match a narrower slice of that. For the subset of beta testers losing Siri access or hitting re-indexing after the update, the rollout also has rough edges.
