Godzilla Minus Zero to Premiere at New York Film Festival

- Takashi Yamazaki's "Godzilla Minus Zero" will world premiere at Alice Tully Hall on Sept. 26 as part of the 64th New York Film Festival, with Yamazaki and members of the cast and crew in attendance.

- The 64th New York Film Festival runs Sept. 25 through Oct. 12, with James Gray's "Paper Tiger" as opening film, Tony Gilroy's "Behemoth!" as centerpiece, and Ava DuVernay's "14th" as closing film.
- NYFF artistic director Dennis Lim framed the film as "a throwback blockbuster" that "returns to its postwar roots to locate a haunting, primal terror," more than 70 years after the first Godzilla movie.
Why it matters: Landing the NYFF Spotlight Gala — a prestige slot historically reserved for awards contenders — gives a Japanese kaiju sequel a rare art-house runway before its GKIDS theatrical release. For GKIDS, the placement extends the specialty-distributor credibility earned when "Godzilla Minus One" won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 2024.
