- Lucid and Bolt announced a partnership to deploy at least 25,000 autonomous Lucid EVs on Bolt's European ride-hailing network, co-developing an "ADS-ready" Level 4 vehicle on Lucid's upcoming Midsize platform.
- The vehicles are expected to use NVIDIA Hyperion, a production-ready compute-and-sensor reference architecture, while Bolt's Bolt Autonomous Driving Solutions unit will own and operate the fleet.
- Bolt, Europe's largest shared-mobility platform with 200M+ customers and operations in 850+ cities, is targeting 100,000 autonomous vehicles on its platform by 2035.
- The deal follows Lucid's July 2025 commitment with Uber to deploy 20,000 Gravity robotaxis in the US running Nuro's system alongside a $300M Uber investment, bringing Lucid's combined autonomous fleet commitments to 45,000 vehicles across two continents.
- Lucid's Midsize platform — the product these 25,000 Bolt vehicles depend on — does not exist yet; Lucid delayed it August 4 as part of a Q2 "operational reset" that included 18% workforce cuts (~1,500 jobs), withdrawal of 2026 production guidance, and Q2 deliveries of just 3,953 vehicles.
- Neither company gave a deployment date for the Bolt fleet, and in both the Uber and Bolt deals Lucid is the hardware vendor while the autonomy software comes from third-party partners.
Why it matters: Lucid has now committed to 45,000 autonomous vehicles across two continents while delivering just 3,953 cars last quarter, cutting 18% of its workforce, and delaying the exact Midsize platform the Bolt fleet depends on. In every deal, Lucid supplies the vehicle; the self-driving software comes from someone else, so these demand signals only materialize once partners solve autonomy at scale.
