- Saudi-backed Yemeni forces have begun a military operation to retake Houthi-controlled areas, including a stated push toward the capital Sanaa, according to multiple outlets
- Yemeni government forces are advancing on the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a critical chokepoint at the southern entrance to the Red Sea
Why it matters: The Bab el-Mandeb Strait is one of the world's most important shipping lanes connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, and any shift in control there directly affects global maritime trade routes and Gulf security dynamics that have already been roiled by Houthi attacks on shipping.
