- FX added five new cast members to Shōgun Season 2—Risei Kukihara, Ryô Satô, Seishiro Nishida, Mantaro Koichi, and Takashi Yamaguchi—as production begins in Vancouver.
- Kukihara will play Gabriel, Satô will portray Rin, Nishida will play Jôshin, Koichi is Saitô, and Yamaguchi will portray Kanō, joining previously announced leads including Emmy winners Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis.
- Season 1 of Shōgun won 18 Emmy Awards, setting the record for most Emmys by a series in a single season, and was FX's first series to win Outstanding Drama Series.
- Sanada became the first Japanese actor to win the Emmy for Lead Actor in a Drama Series, while Anna Sawai became the first actress of Asian descent to win Lead Actress in the same category.
- Season 2 casting was handled by Kei Kawamura and Laura Schiff, whose work on Season 1 won the Emmy for Outstanding Casting in a Drama Series.
- Season 2 will stream on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally, and air on the FX channel.
Why it matters: FX is doubling down on Shōgun after its record-breaking 18-Emmy first season, the most by any series in a single year. With the full ensemble returning and new characters slotted in, the show's international streaming footprint (Hulu U.S., Disney+ abroad) positions Season 2 as a flagship title for FX's parent Disney.
