- BYD launched its second-generation Seagull EV in China, starting at 65,900 yuan ($9,900), making it the company's most affordable electric vehicle.
- BYD equipped the new Seagull with 5-minute Flash Charging, enabling a 10% to 70% charge in five minutes and a full charge in nine minutes.
- BYD increased the Seagull’s dimensions, adding 425 mm in length and a 150 mm longer wheelbase, now seating five with a 2,650 mm wheelbase.
- BYD upgraded the Seagull to rear-wheel drive with an 85 kW or 95 kW motor, replacing the previous 55 kW front-wheel-drive setup.
- BYD introduced the Blade Battery 2.0 in 30.1 kWh and 39.2 kWh variants, delivering CLTC ranges of 320 km and 420 km, respectively.
- BYD enhanced the interior with a 15.6″ infotainment screen, DiLink 150 cockpit, and optional DiPilot 300 with LiDAR-enabled City Navigation on Autopilot.
Why it matters: Urban EV buyers gain access to ultra-fast charging and advanced driver assistance in a sub-$10,000 car, resetting affordability benchmarks. BYD’s cost-efficient scaling pressures global automakers to match performance at lower price points or risk losing entry-level market share.
