- Thoughtful Things launched a Kickstarter campaign for Engram, the startup's first hardware instrument.
- Engram functions as a sampler and groovebox that uses AI to mangle incoming audio and hallucinate completely new sounds.
- The Engram is explicitly positioned as distinct from text-to-music tools like Suno, described as not a "push-button, get-song" device.
Why it matters: Engram represents a hands-on, performance-oriented approach to AI music generation — embedding the technology inside a tactile instrument rather than wrapping it in a consumer song generator. For electronic musicians and producers, this offers a new creative tool category that bridges generative AI with the live manipulation workflow of traditional grooveboxes.
