- A plane carried a banner urging Florida State to fire Seminoles coach Mike Norvell as it hovered over Doak Campbell Stadium before the game, making the appeal a pregame protest rather than a response to the 36-24 loss.
- Dabo Swinney called the plane-banner display "embarrassing" and "shameful," with the Tigers coach condemning the aerial appeal against Norvell.
Why it matters: The timing matters: the appeal to oust Mike Norvell was made before the game, not after the 36-24 loss, so Florida State's coach was the target while the outcome was still unknown. Clemson won 36-24 regardless — the defeat followed the demand rather than prompting it.
