- Atresmedia Cine general manager Jaime Ortiz de Artiñano revealed that 75% of Spanish box office admissions this year went to just 10 local titles, even though more than 275 Spanish films were released, prompting his declaration that "the future of Spanish cinema is not about making more films."
- Atresmedia has led the Spanish box office for seven consecutive years, with market shares ranging from around 30% to more than 50%, and says its films accounted for more than 50% of Spanish-film box office in 2026 — with "Torrente Presidente" alone representing almost 40%.
- The slate features "Sira", a sequel to "The Time In Between Seams" starring Adriana Ugarte, produced with Netflix and Buendía Estudios Bizkaia, which will premiere on Atresplayer before moving to Antena 3 primetime as part of an increasingly important windowing model.
- "La Bola Negra", Spain's Oscar submission and TIFF People's Choice Award winner, is a Lorca-inspired multi-generational drama directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, starring Penélope Cruz, Glenn Close, Miguel Bernardeau and Lola Dueñas as a Movistar Plus+ original co-produced with El Deseo and Le Pacte.
- Ortiz de Artiñano argued that "no single player can consistently finance ambitious films on its own anymore," framing Atresmedia's expanding role as both producer and "industrial catalyst" assembling partners across broadcasters, platforms and distributors.
- The 2027 slate spans fact-inspired sports dramas ("Karateka" about Olympic karate gold medalist Sandra Sánchez, "La Roja" about Spain's cricket team led by Paco León), a family drama with Goya winner Eduard Fernández ("El mal padre"), and the Javier Gutiérrez–Miguel Herrán thriller "El Confidente."
Why it matters: With 275+ Spanish films competing but 75% of admissions flowing to just 10 titles, mid-budget Spanish productions face a sharply shrinking theatrical window — and Atresmedia's expanding co-financing partnerships with Netflix, Movistar Plus+ and El Deseo position it as Spain's de facto industrial hub, raising the bar for every independent producer trying to reach Spanish theatrical audiences.
