- Ipswich Town signed Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City for £20m on a five-year contract, completing their fifth summer signing ahead of their return to the Premier League under manager Gary O'Neil.
- Fatawu, 22, scored 16 goals in 100 appearances for Leicester since joining from Sporting in 2023 and said he was drawn by the club's 'ambition' as they prepare for top-flight football.
- Ipswich are willing to let winger Jaden Philogene leave, with Bologna, Roma and Benfica among the clubs interested in the 24-year-old.
- Fatawu follows striker Emersonn, signed from Toulouse for a club-record £26m, plus permanent deals for Cedric Kipre, Chuba Akpom and goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen from FC Volendam.
- Leicester were relegated from the Championship last term and are preparing for their second consecutive season in League One.
- Ipswich finished second in the Championship and host Sunderland in their Premier League opener on 22 August.
Why it matters: The £20m deal follows a club-record £26m outlay on Emersonn earlier this month, showing Ipswich are willing to spend aggressively ahead of their top-flight return. The willingness to cash in on Philogene to fund incomings underscores the financial balancing act facing newly promoted clubs in the Premier League.
