- Spur Intelligence raised a $200 million round led by Insight Partners, according to the company, with the funding aimed at scaling its enterprise bot-detection technology.
- Spur was founded in 2017 by two former Defense Department engineers — five years before ChatGPT's public launch — and helps enterprises distinguish legitimate human users from bot traffic to flag fake users and threats.
- Insight Partners' Thomas Krane said organizations face a 'critical blind spot' as sophisticated criminal VPNs, residential proxy networks, and anonymization infrastructure proliferate, leaving security teams that can see activity but not the infrastructure behind it.
- Cloudflare reported that as of mid-2026, bots are now more active on the internet than humans — a milestone Cloudflare founder and CEO Matthew Prince had previously pegged for late 2027 or early 2027.
- Prince posted on X that agentic traffic is growing so fast that bots have passed human traffic online 'for the first time in the Internet's history.'
Why it matters: Spur was founded in 2017 — well before generative AI made bot traffic a mainstream enterprise concern — giving the Insight-backed startup a multi-year head start as the problem it solves just hit a historic inflection point: bots now outnumber humans online, a milestone Cloudflare's CEO thought was still a year or more away. The $200M round lands at a moment when enterprise security teams are scrambling to see through criminal proxy and anonymization infrastructure they currently can't penetrate.
