- Audible is launching SPLBERG, an eight-episode investigative podcast about Jonathan Taylor Spielberg, who convinced a suburban Virginia Catholic high school he was filmmaker Steven Spielberg's nephew in the late 1990s.
- Charlie Webster, host of the Scamanda podcast, hosts and executive produces the series, which premieres June 25 on Audible and was produced with Telltale Industries.
- The series features interviews with former classmates, detectives, and lawyers, and includes unprecedented access to Jonathan Taylor Spielberg himself.
- Webster said the story may 'on the surface, seem like a quirky 90s, weird and funny thing' but indicated it goes much deeper, telling listeners 'you will never guess where this goes.'
- Webster initially walked away from the project before returning, framing her decision to come back as part of the story itself and positioning herself as a 'survivor' trying to close 'the gap between the version that gets told and the version that is true.'
Why it matters: The June 25th Audible Original — produced with Telltale Industries — includes unprecedented access to Jonathan Taylor Spielberg himself, and host Charlie Webster's framing as a 'survivor' positions the story as having real victim stakes, not just a quirky 90s oddity, giving the series material to correct the original narrative.
