AMD takes on Nvidia with its Helios AI rack scale system

- AMD unveiled its Helios rack-scale AI system at its sold-out Advancing AI conference in San Francisco, with CEO Lisa Su calling it "the tech industry's highest performance AI rack" built for gigawatt-scale deployment

- Anthropic and AMD announced a strategic partnership Wednesday to deploy up to two gigawatts of GPUs via Helios, joining a customer roster that includes OpenAI, Meta, Oracle, and Microsoft
- Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said Monday the company would expand its Azure infrastructure with Helios
- AMD also introduced the Venice-X CPU for data centers and high-compute workloads, with launch expected in 2027
- Lisa Su projected the AI accelerator market will reach approximately $1.4 trillion by 2030 — approaching the size of today's entire semiconductor market — driven by what she called a "step change in compute demand" from agentic AI
