- GoSun co-developed the Moonrider 27 All-Electric Solar Tractor with Indian tractor brand Moonrider, powered by a 20 kW (~27 hp) electric motor that sends torque to all four wheels for traction across terrain.
- The Moonrider 27 draws from a 24 kWh LFP battery pack rated for up to 5 hours of continuous operation, with charging available via a 220/240V AC "L2" connector.
- GoSun's optional 1.1 kW solar array can add about 1.5 hours of runtime on a sunny day during parts of the year — and with moderate use, the company says users could go days, weeks, or months without plugging in.
- The tractor includes a 540 rpm mechanical power take-off (PTO) at the rear, enabling it to run existing implements like mowers, tillers, and post-hole diggers already sitting in farmers' barns.
- Patrick Sherwin, GoSun's founder and CEO, said the tractor empowers farmers to "work in the sunshine" while reducing operational costs and protecting soil and air versus diesel utility vehicles.
Why it matters: Small-scale farming has long relied on diesel utility vehicles, and prior electric tractor attempts have struggled in the market. The Moonrider 27's standard 540 rpm PTO removes a key adoption barrier by working with implements farmers already own, while the solar option could let moderate users avoid plug-in charging entirely.
