- Pakistan were bowled out for 133 in 33.5 overs after England won the toss and elected to field at Edgbaston, Birmingham
- Josh Tongue led the England attack with 4/42 from 10 overs, supported by Ollie Robinson (3/15) and Jofra Archer (3/25) — three seamers sharing the destruction
- Saud was the only Pakistani batsman to offer sustained resistance, top-scoring with 43 off 47 balls (seven fours) before falling to Tongue
- England reached 156/4 in reply, opening a first-innings lead of 23 with six wickets in hand on day one
- Pakistan's slide was steep: the last six wickets fell for 74 runs, with extras (20, including 14 wides) outscoring four of the top six batsmen
Why it matters: Pakistan's dismissal in 33.5 overs leaves them a bowler's length behind in a five-day Test, with England already 23 ahead and six wickets in reserve. The shared-seamer nature of the rout — three bowlers taking three-plus wickets each — suggests no Pakistan batting unit absorbed pressure, compounding questions about their middle-order depth heading into the rest of the series.
