- Coby Bryant hyperextended his left knee during one-on-one drills in Monday's first padded training camp practice, sustaining a bone bruise and small fracture but avoiding surgery, per sources told to ESPN's Adam Schefter
- Bryant will be sidelined 8-10 weeks and was visibly frustrated before riding a cart back into the Lake Forest facility
- The Bears signed Bryant to a three-year, $40 million deal this offseason after replacing both 2025 starting safeties, also drafting Dillon Thieneman with the 25th pick
- Veteran Cam Lewis shifted from nickel corner -- where he'd been filling in for the injured Kyler Gordon -- to safety once Bryant departed, while backup Elijah Hicks opened camp on the PUP list
- The remaining three Bears safeties on the roster -- Gervarrius Owens, Skyler Thomas, and Anthony Johnson Jr. -- have zero combined NFL snaps
- Tight end Colston Loveland called Bryant 'tough' and 'a dog,' saying 'He's going to be fine'
Why it matters: The Bears are now dangerously thin at safety for a camp that already had Kyler Gordon (calf) and Elijah Hicks sidelined, leaving a depth chart behind Bryant that includes three players with zero NFL defensive snaps among them.
