- Chunghwa Telecom unveiled 10 new investments at its Content Slate and Partnership Showcase: four scripted series, “Next Z Chef,” two films, the “Speak in Silence” tour and equity positions in DaMou Entertainment and Horiza Creations.
- “Gunshot” is a police crime drama made with PTS Taigi TV and S11 Partners; “Yesterday’s Daughter, Tomorrow’s Mother” comes from producer Phoebe Ma and director Hung Tzu-peng, “Guides to the World Below” adapts a popular Taiwanese comic, and Esther Liu executive-produces “C’est la Vie.”
- “Call of Lobster” won the Chunghwa Telecom Award at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest’s 2024 pitching sessions and was selected for the Culture Ministry’s first international flagship cohort under its Great Voyage Project; “Demon of East: Black Condo” is tied to a cinematic universe crossing four Asian countries.
- Shallow Levée will take “Speak in Silence” on an Asian tour of about 50 shows across Taiwan and eight other countries.
- Horiza Creations and DaMou Entertainment were the two production companies in which Chunghwa Telecom and Chunghwa Digital Cultural and Creative took equity positions; Horiza gauges audience demand through community engagement and crowdfunding, while DaMou produced “The World Between Us II” and “Wave Makers.”
- “Arrested Memory” and “The Photo From 1977,” both backed by Chunghwa, collected 12 combined nominations at the 63rd Golden Horse Awards.
- MOD and Hami Video, together with Chunghwa’s mobile and broadband networks, have more than 3 million subscribers.
Why it matters: Culture Minister Li Yuan and Chunghwa executive Lin Wen-chiyh both frame the move beyond the core business as support for creators, with Lin emphasizing international partnerships. The 10 investments include equity positions in DaMou and Horiza, while Chunghwa’s mobile, broadband, MOD and Hami Video businesses exceed 3 million subscribers, pairing project backing with ownership and distribution.
