- Blumhouse is developing a movie adaptation of DreadXP's indie puzzle-horror video game franchise "Amanda the Adventurer," based on developer MANGLEDmaw Games' series.
- Matthew "MatPat" Patrick, former host of YouTube's "Theory" channels, will spearhead the film project; the adaptation was revealed alongside Jason Blum on stage at the Blumfest panel at New York Comic Con on Friday.
- Blumhouse struck a multi-project deal with Patrick, with "Amanda the Adventurer" as the first title, and said they are currently in talks with potential writers and directors.
- Patrick Ewald, CEO of Epic Pictures, will also produce the adaptation alongside Patrick and Blum.
- The "Amanda the Adventurer" game follows Riley Park, who discovers VHS tapes of a mysterious early-2000s children's cartoon in her late Aunt Kate's attic, featuring characters Amanda and Wooly the Sheep who appear to communicate directly through the TV set.
- Patrick previously co-produced Broadway's Tony-nominated "Grey House" and the West End musical "Your Lie" (April), and landed voice-acting roles in Blumhouse's "Five Nights at Freddy's" film franchise.
Why it matters: The adaptation extends Blumhouse's pattern of mining internet-native horror IP for theatrical releases, following its "Five Nights at Freddy's" franchise in which Patrick already voiced a role. Patrick's multi-project deal — not a one-off — signals Blum's intent to anchor an ongoing creative partnership with the creator beyond a single title.
