- Amazon MGM Studios is developing a series adaptation of The Courier, a new novel by bestselling thriller author Melinda Leigh.
- Martin Gero will showrun, write and executive produce the series under his Quinn’s House banner, which, with producing partner Premeditated Productions, is under an exclusive deal at Amazon.
- The Courier centers on Daisy, a diplomatic courier framed for a plane explosion meant to kill her and conceal a stolen package, who goes on the run across Europe to clear her name.
- Premeditated Productions executives Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark will executive produce, while its SVP Television Julie Jarmon will serve as co-executive producer and point the project.
- The Courier will publish next March through Sideways, an imprint of Entangled Publishing.
- Martin Gero is best known as the creator, showrunner, writer and executive producer of Blindspot, which ran for five seasons.
- Melinda Leigh is the No. 1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author of more than 40 thrillers, whose books have sold over 16 million copies and earned numerous publishing awards.
Why it matters: Amazon is pairing Martin Gero, creator of the five-season Blindspot, with Melinda Leigh, whose 40-plus thrillers have sold 16 million copies, for one international series project. With Gero also writing and executive producing and publication set for next March, the adaptation is more developed than a simple rights announcement.
