- Johanna Greif, a graphic designer at the North Bend Theatre in North Bend, Washington, won first place in CinemaCon's annual poster competition, now in its fifth year and open to movie theater employees worldwide.
- Greif's winning poster depicts an art deco movie palace resembling the North Bend's 85-year-old exterior, filled with celluloid iconography including the ruby slippers from "The Wizard of Oz," the blood-red balloon from "It," and 007's signature martini.
- First prize includes a round-trip flight to Las Vegas for CinemaCon, and Greif's design will be printed on a T-shirt distributed to the conference's attendees.
- Richard Dahms of the Galaxy Theatres chain and Patrick Stickney of Classic Cinemas took second and third place, respectively, in a contest that drew 46 total submissions.
- The North Bend Theatre is run by Greif's fiancé Sam Burrows and his parents Kevin and Beth, and sits 45 minutes outside Seattle in the mountain town that served as the setting for David Lynch's "Twin Peaks."
Why it matters: Among 46 submissions from theater workers worldwide, the top prize went to a designer at a family-run art deco cinema, and her poster will reach every CinemaCon attendee via a conference T-shirt — a free promotional boost for the small-town North Bend Theatre located across the street from the "Twin Peaks" diner.
